Tanzania
East Africa / The Great Lakes
Kilimanjaro appears above the clouds before you expect it - larger than makes sense, white-capped and silent, hovering. Tanzania has this effect repeatedly: the Serengeti is bigger than you prepared for, Zanzibar's history is deeper, the silence of Selous more complete. This is a country that keeps exceeding its own reputation, which is already considerable.
Our guide is being written from the ground up, with the time this place deserves.
We are still gathering the notes that make a guide worth keeping: dhow routes, spice markets, migration calendars and the Stone Town streets that only reveal themselves on foot.
Guide in progress - notes are being gathered into a fuller country guide.
